 HERITAGE COFFEE

Kathryn got involved with Kevin Durkin for this building project in 2018 when the only thing existing was a concrete slab to fit the barn frame.

The vision at the time was to create a farm to table restaurant with seating in the barn frame, a kitchen and a solarium as an addition.

Along the way she was working with Professional Kitchen Designer, Crue Welborn, of Complete Restaurant Services, Inc based in Dallas, TX.

She produced the floor plans, elevations, sections, 3D views, construction documents and details. Today the windows are exactly as she drew them, finding inspiration from the restaurant Flowerchild in Dallas.

In January 2019 she joined the Heritage Restorations crew on barn raising day, supplying her sharp timber framing chisels and Japanese saws to make adjustments. She drove the fork lift to bring the timbers to the concrete pad.

As the construction continued, Kathryn jumped in planning the garden for the farm to table restaurant in March 2019. Her and Sam Oakley created the planting list and garden layout. Together they formed rows, planted, and maintained the crops.

The nature of design and building projects change on a daily basis, sometimes minor changes, and other times 180 degree changes. There came an opportunity for Heritage Architecture to find a new office space and location for Heritage Coffee. It worked out to pass the plans along to Heritage Architecture and they have created a warm inviting space to meet, enjoy a cup of coffee, work on future barn restorations, and have a built in barn showcase.
