Kevin Durkin, the founder of Heritage Restorations and Restoration Living discovered this centerhall colonial home in the Mohawk Valley in New York. It was originally built in 1817.
Kathryn’s involvement in the project began with drafting the original timber frame structure in Revit. Working closely with Kevin throughout the design journey, communicating with hand sketches.
Kathryn produced basic floor plans, elevations, sections, and 3D views and connected with a local architect, Sterling Thompson, of Sterling and Kap Architects, LLC. Together they presented the concept to the City of Waco planning team at the Dr. Mae Jackson Development Center in February 2020. Originally, this restoration project was going to be located downtown Waco, in the Magnolia Silos District, and restored as a Bed and Breakfast.
As plans changed, it was decided the Inn was going to reside on Homestead Heritage property.
In March 2021 the team came together to push through all of the finishing touches. Kathryn arrived in Dallas and immediately began by shopping at antique shops, and loading up furniture to take back to the shop in Waco. She helped with restoring the furniture and original doors. She worked alongside artisan, Joe Quinones, who taught her how to faux finish the trim to seamlessly transition new material with historic woodwork.
